Reports surfaced last week that Premier League club Arsenal had put in a bid for New England Revolution and United States Men's National Team goalkeeper Matt Turner.
It appears an agreement is imminent.
ESPN's Taylor Twellman (h/t Jeff Carlisle) now reports Arsenal and the Revolution have agreed to terms on Turner's transfer. New England is set to receive a $6 million fee with add-ons that could increase the price to $10 million. Additionally, the Revolution would earn a 10% sell-on percentage if Arsenal sell Turner down the road.
As for the 27-year-old, in need of playing time before the fall's World Cup tournament, he will stay with the Revolution through the start of the upcoming Major League Soccer season and then join Arsenal this summer. Turner is on track to start for the U.S. for at least Thursday's World Cup qualifier against El Salvador, as Zack Steffen is dealing with a back injury.
This latest development suggests Arsenal won't sell current backup Bernd Leno before the January transfer window closes. Turner may, however, receive a chance to compete with Arsenal No. 1 Aaron Ramsdale this summer coming off a year that saw the American earn CONCACAF Gold Cup Golden Glove Award and 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Award honors.
