Tottenham Hotspur defender Ashley Phillips has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 19-year-old was on loan at Stoke City last season, and he has been linked with Sheffield United recently. The defender needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and it will be interesting to see if he is sent out on loan once again.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, Thomas Frank is a fan of the young defender and he does not wish to send the player elsewhere. The Danish manager is hoping to keep the 19-year-old at the club for the upcoming season. It remains to be seen whether he can provide him with ample opportunities.

Tottenham need more depth in the defensive unit, and the young defender could be a useful option for them. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Staying at Tottenham next season will certainly be an exciting option for the young defender. He will hope to play often. Tottenham will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and they need a deeper squad to do well across multiple competitions. Phillips could get plenty of opportunities in the cup games and during rotation.

It remains to be seen whether Sheffield United decide to test Tottenham’s resolve with an offer this summer. They need defensive depth on the side, and the 19-year-old could be a key player for them next season.

Spurs must focus on his development, and they should only keep him at the club if they can offer him regular opportunities. Sitting on the bench at the North London club will be detrimental to the young defender’s development.
