Report: Tottenham leading Euro giants in the race to sign fearless 23-year-old utility man

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race to sign the Belgian defender Koni De Winter during the summer transfer window.

According to a report via Sport Witness, Juventus and Inter Milan are keen on the versatile defender, but Tottenham have emerged as the front runners.

Crystal Palace has been linked with the player as well. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Spurs could use defensive depth

Tottenham value him €30 million, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done. They could use more depth in the defensive unit, and the Belgian would be the ideal acquisition. He is young enough to improve further, and he is already impressing in the Italian league.

Cristian Romero has been linked with the move away from the club this summer, and the young Belgian could be the ideal long-term replacement.

Koni De Winter could fancy the move

The opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in England will be quite exciting for him. They could provide him with Champions League football next season and the opportunity to fight for trophies. It remains to be seen whether the north London outfit can secure an agreement with Genoa.

If they manage to sign in for €30 million, the deal could look like a bargain in the long term. The defender is capable of operating as a fullback as well as a central defender. His versatility will be a huge asset.

The player is rated highly across Europe, and former Italian international Leonardo Bonucci has labelled him as a fearless player. There is no doubt that he has the ability to develop into a key player for Tottenham with the right guidance. Regular football in England could bring out the best in him.
