Tottenham’s recent acquisition, 18-year-old Ashley Phillips, who arrived from Blackburn for £2 million, will not be loaned out during the summer transfer window, as reported by Ham & High.

The highly regarded young talent has committed to a five-year contract with Spurs, and contrary to expectations, the decision has been made to retain him within the squad.

He broke into the Blackburn team last season and made a significant impact making 14 appearances across all competitions at just 17 years of age.

In his first interview with Tottenham’s official channel, Phillips expressed his aspiration to be an active part of the first-team environment in the upcoming season.

He underlined his dream of making appearances for the Premier League side and his excitement about playing in a Spurs shirt.

When asked for his ambitions on this season he said:

“To be involved with the first-team environment hopefully make some appearances.”

“It’s a dream I’ve always had and it would be a massive moment for me and my family.”

“I’ve always dreamed about being in the Premier League and can’t wait to play in it with the Spurs shirt.”

He is not the only youngster Postecoglou has signed. Spurs have also signed young Argentinian striker Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central in a deal that could be worth up to £13million.

The new manager has a reputation of working with and improving young players so it will be interesting to see what plans he has with the two.

While both players possess quality, the question of whether Postecoglou will immediately integrate them into the first team or have them gain experience with the Tottenham U21s remains unanswered.
