Carlo Marchetti is the favourite to replace Steven Zhang as Inter Milan President.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the existing board member could be promoted when a new board is named.

On June 4th, Inter will hold a shareholders meeting.

This will be a massively significant meeting for the Nerazzurri’s future, as it will see the club name a new board of directors.

This will constitute one of the most important steps in Oaktree Capital’s takeover of the club.

The US-based fund are already Inter owners. They repossessed the shares of outgoing owners Suning last week.

But as of yet, Oaktree do not have an ownership structure in place to run the club.

After next week’s meeting, though, there will be a new board of directors to facilitate Oaktree’s running of Inter.

Carlo Marchetti Likely Candidate To Replace Zhang As Inter Milan President

Naturally, as part of the takeover, all of the members of the Nerazzurri board representing Suning will be out the door.

Reports indicate that Oaktree will appoint a more streamlined board of directors than the existing board.

The US fund will be somewhat more hands-on in their management of Inter than Suning had been.

There will be autonomy for the senior management led by CEOs Beppe Marotta and Alessandro Antonello. However, Oaktree will have representatives working closely with the directors.

Alejandro Cano and Katherine Ralph are the two representatives of Oaktree who have already met with Marotta and Antonello.

The pair are fluent in Italian and will play a part in the running of Inter.

Meanwhile, Carlo Marchetti and Amedeo Carrassai are the two representatives of Oaktree on the existing board. They were appointed in 2021.

The Gazzetta anticipates that Marchetti will become the new Inter President.

There had been rumours that the new President could be a figurehead at the club like current Vice-President Javier Zanetti. But instead, Oaktree anticipate, it will be Oaktree representative Marchetti.
