The Athletic’s Adam Crafton reports that Liverpool received €17 million (£15 million) this week from a sell-on clause tied to Ekitiké’s transfer. On top of that, the club has brought in at least £200 million thanks to their Champions League triumph and finishing as runners-up at the Club World Cup.

The timing, however, wasn’t ideal. Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe were all still at the club during his first season, and Ekitike made just one league start in his first three months under Christophe Galtier.
With limited chances, his confidence took a hit, and his performances suffered. He finished the Ligue 1 season with only three goals from 25 appearances. In January 2024, he joined Frankfurt on loan, and since then, his development has taken off.
The former France Under-21 international scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, including 15 in the Bundesliga and now will look to translate this production to the Premier League.
