The pursuit of Galatasaray of Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu broke down over the player’s contract demands.
This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.
Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu stayed at Inter Milan this summer. He did so in spite of a lot of transfer rumours, though.
Galatasaray had reportedly been keen to sign the 31-year-old former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
However, the Gazzetta report that the Istanbul giants did not even make Inter an official offer.
A deal for Calhanoglu would simply have been out of reach financially for Galatasaray.
For one thing, the Turkish international was insisting on a wage increase from the €7.5 million net per season plus add-ons he earns at Inter. And he wanted at least a three-year deal.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, those demands from Calhanoglu’s camp were not realistic for Galatasaray.
The Turkish champions would have had to pay more than the midfielder earns at Inter.
Reportedly, Calhanoglu receives a bonus of a million euros for Champions League qualification in his contract with Inter.
Therefore, the Gazzetta report, Galatasaray had to withdraw in the end. They did not even make an offer for Calhanoglu.
