Inter Milan did not bring in Jose Mourinho to replace Simone Inzaghi due to his high release clause at Fenerbahce.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan are reportedly close to naming Cristian Chivu as their new coach.

The Nerazzurri have been in search of a new coach to replace Simone Inzaghi. The 49-year-old left the club this week to join Al-Hilal.

Inter had been working on snapping up Cesc Fabregas to become Inzaghi’s successor.

However, Como President Mirwan Suwarson strongly rebuffed the Nerazzurri’s interest, and stated that the Lariani would refuse to release the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Genoa coach Patrick Vieira was another name reportedly on Inter’s shortlist.

Inter Milan Didn’t Move For Jose Mourinho To Replace Inzaghi Due To High Fenerbahce Release Clause

According to La Repubblic, one big name that was under discussion at Inter was Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach certainly has a prominent history with Inter. He coached the Nerazzurri for two seasons between 2008 and 2010, winning the Treble.

And in the meantime, Mourinho has had stints with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Roma.

Currently, Mourinho is in charge Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

And the 62-year-old does have a release clause in his contract with the Istanbul giants. However, it would be very steep, according to La Repubblica.

Therefore, the newspaper anticipate, Inter went for Chivu instead.
