Rio Ferdinand is seen as one of the best centre-backs in Premier League history.

After starting his career at West Ham United, Ferdinand made a controversial move from Leeds United to Manchester United.

During his time at United, he played almost 500 games and had a trophy laden spell at the club, where he won six Premier Leagues, three League Cups and a Champions League.

Playing under Sir Alex Ferguson during this time, he knows what is is like to play for a successful manager.

He has given his take on United’s interim manager, former teammate Michael Carrick.

Carrick has gotten off to the perfect start, with wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.

After the Arsenal victory away from home, this has led to many debating whether he stays beyond his interim spell.

Speaking on a live stream on his Youtube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, he said that Carrick should not be ignored for the next job.

This is despite former United captain Roy Keane stating that Carrick should not be given the job permanently under any circumstances.

“Two weeks ago, Man Utd were in a sorry state of affairs; we were the butt of everyone’s joke, it was a debacle, what we were looking at”, said Ferdinand alongside content creator Joel Beya.

“He’s gone and got six points. And people are telling me that, no matter what Michael Carrick does, he shouldn’t get the opportunity to manage Man Utd.

“Where the hell are you people coming from? The disrespect is unbelievable.

“For somebody to say, no matter what this person does, he doesn’t deserve to be given the keys to Man Utd, on what grounds are you saying that? That’s mad talk.”

For Carrick, they are now in fourth place after Liverpool’s last gasp loss to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

Their next three games come against Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, the latter two who have struggled for form this season.
