Back in summer 2025, Rio Ferdinand and his family made the decision to leave the UK, moving to Dubai, commenting on the issues in the UK being a core reason for the move.

The former Manchester United defender commented on the extent of tax in the UK, compared to the state of services such as health care.

Alongside this, the player-turned-pundit also commented on being able to spend more time with his family, loving life in the middle-East.

However, Rio Ferdinand and his family have now been caught up in the conflict hitting Dubai from Iran, with his wife Kate recalling the recent situation.

In a statement on her Instagram account, as reported by GiveMeSport, Kate commented: “Thank you for all of your messages and sorry for the silence, I haven’t wanted to worry you all I just haven’t been able to find the words. We are safe.”

She continued: “The government are doing an amazing job of keeping it that way and despite my nerves I feel we are in very safe hands.

“We are hoping for a calmer evening tonight, last night was very scary. Although Cree and Shae loved it, as they couldn’t believe we all got a sleepover in the basement.

“Thank you for all of your prayers, this whole experience is very eye-opening and I am praying for anyone affected. Lots of love to everyone.”

Rio Ferdinand and Kate Ferdinand moved to Dubai with their two children, Cree (five) and Shae (two), as well as Tia (14), Rio’s daughter from his first marriage.
