NEW MEXICO — Phoenix Rising is back in USL Championship play, facing New Mexico United and looking for a win after playing extra minutes on Wednesday.
Phoenix comes off a loss against the Houston Dynamo FC, 4-1, and being eliminated from the Lamar U.S. Open Cup on May 7. Rising took Houston to extra time after forward Dariusz Formella tied the match in the final minutes of the first half. The Dynamo’s offense sparked a rally to take the win on three goals after regulation, with Phoenix unable to answer back.
New Mexico currently sits in second place in the USL Western Conference with a 5-2-0 record. The club also lost its last match, a 3-0 defeat against the El Paso Locomotive FC on May 3. A hattrick sealed the win for El Paso, with New Mexico only getting four shots the entire match.

Rising and New Mexico have played each other 10 times in regular-season matchups since 2019, with Phoenix holding a 5-3-2 record. New Mexico won their last encounter, in November of last year 2-1.
