Manchester United have reportedly taken the rare step of fast-tracking 14-year-old JJ Gabriel into first-team training, showcasing their belief in one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from Carrington in recent years.
Born in 2010, Gabriel is already playing above his age group with United’s under-18s. According to BBC Sport's Simon Stone, the club has informed the teenager, who is still at school, that he will be invited to train with Ruben Amorim’s senior squad “at times this season,” an extraordinary opportunity for a player still at the very beginning of his development.

Gabriel announced himself in April when he made his U18 debut against Leeds United. Coming off the bench, he became the youngest player to appear at that level for the club and promptly scored twice in a stunning 13–1 victory.
The performance drew comparisons with Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, who became the Premier League’s youngest debutant at 15.
Despite his rapid rise, Gabriel will not feature in this season’s FA Youth Cup. Competition rules require players to have turned 15 before Aug. 31, leaving him just weeks short of eligibility.
The restriction makes his development unusual, as while he cannot yet compete in youth football’s most prestigious domestic competition, he is already being eased into senior-team sessions at Carrington.
Primarily a center-forward, though comfortable across the front line, Gabriel has represented England at youth level and also reportedly remains eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland.
United’s decision to integrate him with the first team so early reflects the high regard in which he is held, even as coaches will undoubtedly stress the importance of careful management.
The club’s academy has long produced stars, from the Busby Babes to the Class of ’92 and, more recently, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
At just 14, Gabriel remains years away from a senior debut, though he has already committed his short-term future by signing a two-year agreement with United. Once he turns 16, his first professional contract will become a major talking point.
For now, United are treading carefully. But the fact that Gabriel is already training with Amorim’s squad speaks volumes. He is the latest name to watch from United’s academy, and one who may yet be remembered well beyond his teenage years.
