Rod Stewart, Dua Lipa among celebrities speaking out against FIFA World Cup

The world's soccer teams and their fans aren't the only ones protesting the FIFA World Cup being played in Qatar this year. Big-name celebrities are also distancing themselves from the event.

Rod Stewart and Dua Lipa both revealed over the weekend that they are not only not performing at the World Cup, but that they are also against the tournament being played somewhere with such a horrible human rights record.

"I was actually offered a lot of money, over $1 million, to play there 15 months ago. I turned it down," the 77-year-old singer told The Sunday Times. "It’s not right to go. And the Iranians should be out too for supplying arms."

In very modern-day form, Dua Lipa took to social media to say in a story that she doesn't support Qatar's record of human rights violations, although the 27-year-old did say she would still support her favorite team.

"I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup," she wrote in an Instagram story.
