Rodrygo Goes Isn’t the Only Top LW Arsenal Are After This Summer

Arsenal’s Left Wing Dilemma

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have taken massive strides in recent years, but close doesn’t win Premier League titles. After another second-place finish, this time behind Liverpool instead of Manchester City, the Gunners are hunting for that final spark to get them over the line. While a new striker remains a top priority, Arsenal also recognize the need for another top-tier left winger—someone who can rotate with or even replace Gabriel Martinelli, who had an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign.

Rodrygo Goes: A World-Class Talent Within Reach?

Of all the names linked, Rodrygo Goes stands out as the most exciting. The Real Madrid forward is already proven at the highest level, with Champions League-winning pedigree and elite dribbling, off-ball movement, and goal contribution. Despite frequently being used on the right to accommodate Vinícius Jr., Rodrygo has long favored the left wing—a position he could make his own at Arsenal.

While Arsenal’s interest is very real, a summer move isn’t guaranteed. According to multiple sources, Rodrygo is considering staying at Madrid under new manager Xabi Alonso to see if he can secure a starting role in the reshaped attack. Real Madrid’s packed forward line featuring Mbappé, Vinícius, and Endrick complicates things, but Rodrygo is not being pushed out.

A Premier League-Proven Alternative

If the Rodrygo pursuit stalls, Anthony Gordon is another name to watch, per information from The Telegraph’s Sam Dean. Arsenal had strong interest in the English winger last summer before eventually backing off. After a breakout 2023/24 season where he was arguably the best left winger in the Premier League, Gordon struggled to recapture that form in 2024/25 due to Newcastle’s instability and his own inconsistency.

Still just 24, Gordon remains a dangerous dribbler and transition threat—traits that suit Arteta’s system. With Newcastle needing to balance the books for Profit & Sustainability Rules, a deal could be revisited at a more reasonable price than last summer.

Why Arsenal Need an Elite LW Now

Gabriel Martinelli is still a talented player with enormous upside, but his stagnation this past season forced Arsenal to rely too heavily on Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz for goals. Adding a goal-scoring winger on the left would diversify their threat and reduce predictability. Whether it’s Rodrygo or Gordon, Arsenal are actively scouting for that final piece to a title-winning puzzle.

Arteta and Andrea Berta know the time is now. Manchester City and Liverpool aren’t going anywhere, and Chelsea will be stronger next season. Arsenal’s summer business—especially on the left wing—could define their title hopes.
