Roma Boss De Rossi Sends Heartwarming Message to Di Francesco

Roma could’ve done Frosinone a massive favor in the Serie A season finale, but Empoli grabbed a last-gasp winner at the Carlo Castellani. Mbaye Niang’s 93rd-minute winner inspired the Tuscan outfit to an all-important 2-1 win against the Giallorossi, handing Gli Azzurri a survival at the expense of the Canaries. 

All Roma had to do was avoid defeat against one of the worst-performing sides in 2024. However, two disallowed goals on either side of halftime eventually backfired on Daniele De Rossi’s side as the former Milan forward struck home a season-defining goal deep into second-half stoppages. 

Seemingly furious with how Roma lost in Tuscany, De Rossi cut a frustrated character in the aftermath. In a desperate attempt to apologize to his friend and ex-Giallorossi manager Eusebio Di Francesco, the 40-year-old tried to comfort his Frosinone counterpart in the post-game interview.

“I don’t think he wants to hear a message from me. We played our game, but I’m sorry that a coach who doesn’t deserve to be relegated and whom I respect so much has been relegated. That hurts me a lot,” the Roma coach told DAZN, as quoted by TMW. 

Roma were not the only culprits for Frosinone’s relegation. The Canaries were the creators of their own demise, losing 1-0 to Udinese at home, even though a point would’ve been sufficient to give them a chance to secure survival through a playoff clash against Empoli. 

Meanwhile, Atalanta’s 3-0 rout of Torino closed the Champions League doors to Roma, condemning them to a third consecutive Europa League campaign.
