Roma-owned defender Mario Hermoso has undergone shoulder surgery while on loan at Bayer Leverkusen and is out for the rest of the season.
The centre-back was a free agent and joined the Giallorossi on September 2, 2024.
However, he made only 13 appearances for Roma before he was sent out on loan in January to Bayer Leverkusen.
Hermoso featured in seven games for the Bundesliga outfit before suffering a serious shoulder injury during the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich.
A statement from the German club confirmed the player underwent surgery in Madrid and will be out of action for the rest of the campaign.
He will remain with Leverkusen during the rehabilitation process rather than return to Roma.
However, Bayer Leverkusen seem unlikely to make the move permanent at this stage, so with a contract to June 2027, it is likely Roma will try to find a new buyer in the summer.
