Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United and Alejandro Garnacho have decided to part ways with Bayer Leverkusen among interested clubs. Garnacho has struggled with inconsistencies last season, while his behaviour proved a tipping point for new United boss Ruben Amorim.
The Argentina international earned promotion to the United senior team under former boss Erik ten Hag and displayed immense potential. However, the 20-year-old struggled with the transition from his role as an impact substitute to a regular senior team starter.
Along with Garnacho’s behaviour, his post-match criticism of Amorim’s selection during the Europa League final loss annoyed the new boss. Amorim joined Man United in the middle of the last season by succeeding Ten Hag after a disastrous campaign’s start.
However, the former Sporting CP boss’ tactical style of played proved too much for the current squad to adjust to. The Red Devils are planning a drastic squad overhaul to back Amorim and avoid any repeat of last season’s disaster.
Romano revealed (via YouTube) that United and Garnacho are ready to part ways with Leverkusen, and several other clubs are interested, including those from the Premier League and Italy. He said:
“Alejandro Garnacho will leave Manchester United. The decision is made, not only from Ruben Amorim’s side but also from the management side, so it is time to part ways between Man United and Alejandro Garnacho. It’s over, they’re looking for solutions, there was a call from Bayer Leverkusen, so Bayer Leverkusen are interested in the player with Erik ten Hag who appreciates Garnacho but at the moment financially looks like a difficult deal to do for the German club, some interest from Italy, but specially from the Premier League. Premier League clubs are calling and pushing for Alejandro Garnacho. But let’s see what happens with Garnacho, but there is a strong possibility of Alejandro Garnacho playing in the Premier League with a different shirt than Man United.
Early reports suggested that United had put a valuation of around €60m (£50.4m) for Garnacho amid interest from Leverkusen. There is no information about the valuation if a Premier League club opts to target the 20-year-old attacker this summer.
Rest assured, this is a unique situation for United as they prefer keeping their academy players, who display immense talent. However, Garnacho’s behaviour and United’s financial situation put the tolerance level of the club at an all-time low.
There is no denying that the Argentina international has every quality to succeed at another club, despite his current struggles with consistency. Many young players go through ups and downs at the early stages of their career, and Garnacho is just 20 years of age.
