Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that only Chelsea and Manchester United are battling for Ipswich Town central forward Liam Delap. The Red Devils have prioritized the forward position during the summer to help Ruben Amorim kickstart the club’s rejuvenation process.

United fans have endured a disastrous season, witnessing the sacking of Erik ten Hag and then the struggle under Amorim. Amorim immediately installed his preferred tactical style with a three-man defence but the players he inherited have failed to adjust.

Nevertheless, the summer transfer window provides Amorim an opportunity to sign the players that suit the profile he desperately desires. As the Red Devils lie 14th in the Premier League, one eye of fans is already in the summer window.

Providing transfer developments in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano highlighted that United and Chelsea are battling for Ipswich star Delap. He said:

“It’s between Man United and Chelsea now, both keen on signing the player. They’re ahead of Bundesliga clubs.”

The Red Devils need to carefully recruit the players during the summer as they face severe financial restrictions right now. United’s past frivolous transfer spending has financially hurt the club as many big signings continuously failed to deliver.

These players are enjoying huge wages at the club and Amorim needs to sell them to increase his transfer budget. At the same time, winning the Europa League remains a crucial prospect as it gives United next season’s Champions League.

United have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as their forward options right now and both have failed to establish themselves. Meanwhile, Delap has 12 goals and two assists from 34 games in all competitions for Ipswich so far this season.

The 22-year-old’s age, nationality and physical prowess are also a crucial factor that makes him coveted among the top clubs. As Ipswich Town are near-relegated, Delap would cost £30m due to his relegation release clause which is a very cheap valuation amid the inflated transfer market.
