Ronald Koeman addresses Luis Suarez departure following Lionel Messi blast

Lionel Messi was not happy with Luis Suarez's departure from Barcelona, blaming the club's management and head coach Ronald Koeman for forcing him out. 

Koeman addressed Suarez's departure on Saturday and tried to place more blame on the management than on himself, according to ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens:

"It seems I'm the bad guy in this movie. But that's not the case. I have shown respect to Luis — the player and the person — from day one. I always said it would be tough to give him minutes but that if he stayed he would be part of the squad. I told the club that as well.

"But it was a decision made by the club. Before I came in as the coach, the club had already made decisions to change things. There are young players here. It wasn't a decision made by me alone, but also by the club."

Suarez had said he'd take a bench role to remain at Camp Nou this season, but eventually agreed to leave when it became clear that Koeman had no plans of using him. It was announced Wednesday that Suarez had been transferred to Atletico Madrid, and Messi wished him good luck in an Instagram post while also slamming Barcelona for letting him go.

Messi's comments provide further evidence that his relationship with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu continues to deteriorate. The 33-year-old decided to remain with Barcelona, but only because he didn't want to take the club to court.

Along with Suarez, Barcelona has parted ways with some of Messi's other close friends in the past, including Arturo Vidal and Neymar. Neymar, who now is with Paris Saint-Germain, commented on Messi's post saying: "It's unbelievable how they do things."

Messi's contract with Barcelona expires following the 2020-21 season, and it appears he'll be moving on from the club at that point. However, Bartomeu has offered Messi a new deal through 2023 and will likely continue to try to re-sign him. With grievances still being shown, there isn't confidence that Barca will retain him.
