Rotherham United to sign Manchester United midfielder

Settling into life in League Two following relegation from League One has not been the easiest task for Rotherham United.

Following disappointment during the previous campaign, The Millers have been forced to reassess their options and strategy during the summer break.

That reconsideration has helped to construct the club’s recruitment process for thus summer’s transfer window, which is set to close in a matter of days.

So far, during the window, the club have signed 12 players although are looking to complete more business before it slams shut next Tuesday.

Having developed Dan Gore during the 2025/26 season, who is now set to join Luton Town, links between Rotherham United and Manchester United appear strong.

With this in mind, journalist Micky Hugworth has now reported that The Millers are set to sign Red Devils midfielder Jayce Fitzgerald on a loan basis for the rest of this season.

Fitzgerald, who has spent considerable time in Manchester United’s academy, has never gone out on loan and is reportedly keen to test himself at a senior level.

League Two appears to be the perfect place to do that, with its professional atmosphere providing a chance for players to develop and push themselves in higher divisions.

With a move now agreed, the 19-year-old will undergo his medical examinations before signing for the club.

Whilst at the Yorkshire club, Jayce Fitzgerald will work alongside experienced professionals such as Kian Spence and Liam Kelly whilst also learning from manager Alex Bruce.

Should he sign in time for Rotherham United’s match against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday, he could make his debut for the side in that match.

If the deal takes slightly longer, however, the 19-year-old may make his debut for the team against Bristol Rovers next Saturday in League Two.
