Roy Keane makes U-turn on Manchester United star after FA Cup final performance

Roy Keane isn’t one to mince his words. The former Manchester United star has often spoken out against Bruno Fernandes, particularly as club captain, but he has acknowledged that he was wrong about his previous criticisms.

I think I can respect a pundit more when I know they’re able to put their hands up and accept being wrong from time to time.

Keane is always vocal when it comes to United and the broadcasters know it makes for great TV. The former Republic of Ireland international was part of the ITV Sport panel for this year’s FA Cup final.

Speaking after the match, admitting his pleasure at being proven wrong by Fernandes, Ten Hag said: “I’ve been critical of Bruno over the years but I’m happy to be proved wrong.

“His leadership today was outstanding. We’ve always mentioned how brilliant he’s been as a player but, you know, I’m just pleased for the fans.”

United came out on top following goals from teenage duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Fernandes provided an assist for Mainoo’s goal to make it 2-0.

City pulled one back in the second half but it wasn’t enough.

Saturday’s performance will change people’s opinions about Fernandes as a captain. He has proved himself to be of the required pedigree – worryingly at a time there are question marks over his future.

Fernandes was instrumental in what could possibly be the game that keeps Ten Hag in the United job. I, for one, certainly hope so.
