Manchester United’s defeat to Grimsby Town on Wednesday only highlighted the need for Ruben Amorim to bring in a new goalkeeper.
The club has had its fair share of tough moments recently, but Wednesday might have been the lowest point yet.
Ruben Amorim didn’t hide his frustration after the match. He seemed completely stunned by how his side could be outplayed by a team from so far down the league ladder.

While plenty of criticism is being aimed at the head coach, the players shouldn’t need a detailed game plan just to string passes together against a League Two side.
Andre Onana’s mistake cost them dearly. He was back in goal for this one after missing the first two games, but it was a return to forget.
It’s added more urgency to United’s search for another option between the sticks.
Neither Onana nor Altay Bayindir have had the best start to the season, with both keepers playing a part in every goal United have conceded so far.
This has pushed United to move for Senne Lammens, and talks are said to be progressing well.
Now, after Wednesday’s struggles in goal, United in Focus understands that confidence remains high within the club about landing the Belgian goalkeeper.
United in Focus can also report via Graeme Bailey that Galatasaray have been in contact with both Lammens and Royal Antwerp. The Turkish club see him as their top alternative if they’re unable to secure a deal for Ederson.
This still appears to be a likely outcome. While Galatasaray may be using Lammens as leverage against Man City, they’ve shown genuine interest to the player as well.
The new asking price is €25m (£21m), which is what Antwerp want. They’ve communicated this figure back to United.
Lammens has already agreed personal terms with United – that was never an issue – but there are still details over the total package that need ironing out. Talks are ongoing though.
For now, United haven’t shifted focus elsewhere and remain hopeful of completing the signing.
If the deal goes through, decisions will need to be made regarding Onana and Bayindir. Both could remain at the club even after Lammens’ arrival, but as mentioned earlier, Onana isn’t happy with his situation.
With both Onana and Bayindir struggling early in the campaign, there’s a strong chance Lammens will step straight into the starting role if he arrives.
Stepping into that role will come with serious expectations, especially with United’s issues in goal so far. Many supporters are likely to view him as the answer to their problems.
Lammens does have the talent to make an impact, but at just 23 and without much top-level experience, it’s a big leap. He’ll need time to settle in and adjust.
Even if he doesn’t hit the ground running right away, Lammens should still be able to handle the basics better than what United have seen from their current options this season.
