Ruben Amorim and Virgil van Dijk have emerged as two of the biggest names in AC Milan’s summer plans.

The Serie A giants are reportedly exploring the possibility of a blockbuster move for the Liverpool captain.

Ruben Amorim, who was officially appointed as AC Milan manager in June, is already looking to leave his mark on the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The former Manchester United boss has wasted little time in the transfer market and, as previously covered by Centre Devils, has already overseen a club-record deal for Goncalo Ramos.

However, Milan’s ambitions do not appear to be stopping there.

Virgil van Dijk open to AC Milan discussions

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are seriously evaluating the feasibility of signing Van Dijk this summer, with the idea originally proposed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic earlier this year.

The report states that club owner Gerry Cardinale and senior figures within the recruitment department are currently assessing whether a move could be completed.

While any deal would be extremely complicated, the source claims Van Dijk would be willing to sit down and discuss a move to the San Siro.

Italy has long appealed to the Dutch defender, both from a football and lifestyle perspective, with the Liverpool captain already owning a property in Sardinia.

Financially, Milan are unable to match Van Dijk’s current Liverpool salary, believed to be around €13 million net per season.

Nevertheless, Cardinale could reportedly consider offering the defender a long-term contract worth approximately €7 million annually.

The biggest obstacle, however, is Liverpool’s stance.

New manager Andoni Iraola is already preparing for life without Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, making the prospect of losing another influential leader extremely difficult.

La Gazzetta dello Sport adds that only an extraordinary offer in the region of €30-40 million, or Van Dijk personally pushing for a departure, could potentially change Liverpool’s position.

For now, Milan’s interest remains at the evaluation stage, but Amorim’s ambition is becoming increasingly clear.
