Ruben Amorim remains confident of Andre Onana

Manchester United could see the departures of several players from the squad this summer. Their Premier League performance has been a cause of worry, and the club desperately need a rebuild. United would be looking to make some quality signings, and one of the players who has constantly hogged the headlines this season is Andre Onana.

The Cameroon goalkeeper has been the first-choice goalkeeper of the team but has committed blunders time and time again, which have cost United dearly. There were reported rumours and a growing feeling inside the club that they can’t continue with Onana as their number one goalkeeper and need to sell him this summer.

Ruben Amorim is a fan of Andre Onana and still trusts in him

However, United District has reported that Ruben Amorin is still satisfied with the performance of Onana despite his lack of consistency and is a fan of the goalkeeper. The manager’s reported backing implies that Onana might not be sold this summer, and he will still continue as the number one goalkeeper for the squad next season.

Talking about his stats, he has conceded 62 goals and kept 11 clean sheets in 47 matches that he has played across competitions so far this season. Sticking with André Onana as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper is a bold — and divisive — decision. His debut season has been rocky, with high-profile mistakes costing the team valuable points and raising real questions about his reliability between the posts.

Despite that, new manager Ruben Amorim reportedly sees something in Onana worth holding onto. His shot-stopping ability and comfort with the ball at his feet fit the style Amorim wants to implement — a modern, possession-based system that demands more from the goalkeeper than just saves.

If Amorim believes he can coach the errors out of Onana and unlock his potential, then giving him another chance could pay off. But the stakes are high. United can’t afford more costly blunders, especially with fan patience wearing thin. Selling him now might be too soon — but keeping him means betting on improvement, not just hoping for it.
