Ruben Amorim is wasting no time putting his stamp on the squad, and his latest call could end up being a major one for several players.
There’s something to be said for how clearly Amorim has gone about building this team. He seems to know exactly which players he wants to rely on.

But with only Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha signed so far, further changes are expected, and more departures are likely as a result.
One of those decisions appears to be sending Toby Collyer out on loan, which could have implications beyond just his own future.
There was an air of inevitability to it, but also a bit of surprise. On paper, Collyer looked like he had the physical attributes to fit into Amorim’s system. But there were still questions about his technical ceiling, and a loan move should help clear that up.
Reports suggest United are keen to send him out on loan to meet one of Amorim’s requests from Ineos. That move could signal what comes next for United after bringing in Mbeumo and Cunha, but the ripple effects go beyond just transfer plans.
It also frees up space in midfield while giving more room for Man Utd’s latest young talent to continue making his case under Ruben Amorim.
The move highlights how much trust Amorim has in Fredricson, especially given that the defensive pecking order is already crowded. Tyler Fredricson and Toby Collyer may play different roles, but the optics around this decision clearly favour the former.
Collyer has been held in high regard within the academy for some time now and brings more first-team experience than Fredricson, dating back to when he was Erik ten Hag’s “anointed wonderkid”.
But United have more depth at the back than they do in midfield, so approving a loan move for Collyer before making any decisions about Fredricson sends a clear message.
It suggests that Fredricson has managed to force his way into Amorim’s plans, despite not having a strong reputation within the academy and facing stiff competition for places.
The manager gave him his debut out of nowhere, and since then he’s shown composure beyond his years.
Willy Kambwala did something similar in 2023/24 but was sold shortly after his rise while his value was still high. In contrast, Tyler isn’t just sticking around – it looks like he could be set for an even bigger role this season.
