Salernitana Sanction Dia with Pay Cut Post Wolves Saga

After spending last season on a successful loan spell in Salerno, the Campania outfit activated a €12M buy-clause to secure his signature, and the player’s value has increased two-fold since. De Sanctis discussed the topic in a presser.

“We received a phone call late on Thursday night with talk of a loan with the option to buy for figures that, if I were to make public, would cause a diplomatic incident. None of their directors contacted me personally. This affected Dia. I expect the player to realise how much we have given him, because we want a rapport of reciprocal respect and hope we can continue like the previous 12 months together.”

“I will say that I, the President and all of Salernitana will not forget what Wolverhampton did. Dia was not called up because in his attitude he showed that he was not ready to play against Lecce. Following the deadline day drama with Wolves, Dia reportedly expressed his discontent with the club for failing to let him leave for the Premier League. Dia is now in line to receive a 15% reduction in salary as a disciplinary sanction, the outlet adds. The player has the right to challenge the ruling before Serie A’s arbitration panel.

It is understood that the Salernitana board is in disarray after a tumultuous transfer window during which the Portuguese coach indicated that he wasn’t familiar with any of their new signings.
