Igor Tudor has been brought in to steady the ship for Tottenham Hotspur, joining the club on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
This is Igor Tudor’s first-ever managerial job in England, and it cannot get any tougher. His first and foremost job will be to steer Spurs away from the relegation zone by collecting as many points in the Premier League. Anything bonus would come with a deeper run in the Champions League, having directly made it to the round of 16 by finishing fourth in the league phase.
Tottenham opted to bring in Tudor until the end of the season to give themselves ample time to thoroughly evaluate their options for the permanent role. Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi are reportedly Spurs’ two leading candidates for the permanent managerial role. Meanwhile, it has also emerged that Robbie Keane is interested in becoming the permanent Spurs boss.
Robbie Keane has been enjoying rich success in Hungary with Ferencvaros. He took charge at Ferencvaros in January 2025 and guided them to the Hungarian league title. The former Spurs striker, who made over 300 appearances for the club, is doing everything to help Ferencvaros retain the crown. His side have also made it to the Europa League knockout rounds.
Amid a title race, it was unlikely Keane would leave the Hungarian side and join Tottenham for a temporary role. And the 45-year-old’s blunt response last week when asked about taking over the reins at Spurs said it all.
Now, Sam Allardyce has backed Keane to take a job up in England amid Tottenham links. The veteran English tactician feels the 45-year-old has given himself a strong chance of managing in the Premier League.
“On the basis of what he’s done in Europe and how successful he’s been, he deserves a job over here. He would have stayed with me and Karl if I had stayed at Leeds,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.
Leeds United legend Eddie Gray, who happens to be Archie Gray’s great-uncle, was also in agreement with Allardyce’s take on Keane. “He’s as good a shout as anybody,” Gray added.
Keane is still very new to management, with his first senior job coming in 2023 when he took charge of Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv. The ex-Republic of Ireland international made an immediate impact and guided Maccabi Tel Aviv to the league title and the Toto Cup. After just one season in the Israeli top-flight, he made the move to Ferencvaros last January and has been doing a commendable job.
At 45, the Irishman is a young, dynamic and energetic coach whose emphasis is to play attacking and expansive football. However, he lacks top-level experience in the game. While Keane is destined to get a bigger managerial job in Europe, a move to Tottenham may come a bit early in his career.
