Manchester City W.F.C. made the signing of United States national team midfielder Sam Coffey official on Wednesday.
The Citizens announced their newest capture on their club website.
"Sam’s reputation as one of the world’s best speaks for itself, and we’re delighted she’s chosen to come here ahead of other potential suitors," Man City W.F.C director of football Therese Sjogran said.
"We believe she has all the qualities needed to thrive at City and, more broadly, the WSL, and we’re excited to see how she can elevate our already superb squad of players. Sam is playing at the top of her game, and I think her decision to come here shows the incredible progress we’ve made as a club and the ambitions we have moving forward.”
The 27-year-old moves to Man City from the Portland Thorns on a $875,000 transfer, according to ESPN. Her contract will run through the summer of 2029.
"It’s a club with so much history, so much success, so much influence in the city," Coffey said upon signing for City. "Manchester is not somewhere I’ve been before, but there’s something about it that I felt I was led to and called to."
City has added one of the USWNT's most valuable talents to an impressive collection of talents. League-leading goalscorer Khadija Shaw, influential midfielder Yui Hasegawa and quick wing-back Kerstin Casparij have pushed City to first place in the Women's Super League standings.
Coffey was named to the NWSL Best XI in three of her four years in America's top women's league. Her vital contributions as a rookie helped the Thorns win the 2022 NWSL Championship.
She has made 42 appearances for the USWNT and has scored five international goals.
