Manchester United have seemingly missed out on yet another midfield signing as Sandro Tonali is headed to London.

The Newcastle United star has been eyed up by all the Premier League giants, with Liverpool having recently joined the race, making enquiries about his availability.

This came on the back of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United targeting the Italy international as Manchester City planned to sign him alongside Elliot Anderson.

However, @szyexcl has taken to X to explain that Tonali is prioritising a move to Spurs, having rejected Manchester City.

The reveal comes soon after the account broke the news of Mateus Fernandes’ move from West Ham to Tottenham, another target The Red Devils have lost out on.

Now, Spurs are understood to have launched a third bid for the midfielder, valued at £85 million, up from their previously rejected £75 million offer.

The post adds that taht the deal is now imminent, seemingly sealing his move to Spurs as coming any time soon.

Manchester United are continuing the same strategy they held last summer, refusing to overpay for targets, ending the long-term run of paying massive sums for star players.

Last year this saw them hold out for a £71 million agreement on Bryan Mbeumo and a £73 million agreement for Benjamin Sesko.

Alongside this they triggered Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause while also negotiating the £13 million move of Senne Lammens.

Much like last year, Michael Carrick’s side are refusing to enter bidding wars, and while this means targets like Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali are being missed, there are others on the shortlist.

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott has been highly regarded at Old Trafford for some time with Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni also being eyed by the United hierarchy.

For now, United fans will need to be patient to see who will be joining Ederson as new signigns this summer, with The Red Devils keen to build on the success of last season.
