Il Mattino and Tuttosport newspaper reports Maurizio Sarri could return to Napoli if the Partenopei hire Frederic Massara as their new sporting director.

Tuttosport and Il Mattino report that Sarri could return to Napoli this summer, five years after leaving the club to join Chelsea.

The 65-year-old has recently resigned from Lazio, so he’s free to sign for any other club, and according to both newspapers, his chances to return to Napoli will rise if Aurelio De Laurentiis hires Massara as the new sporting director.

Tuttosport’s Tuesday printed edition on page 23 claims ADL still hopes to persuade Antonio Conte to move to the Stadio Maradona, but the ex-Inter and Juventus coach is unlikely to accept the Partenopei’s offer. De Laurentiis is ready to involve director Gianluca Petrachi, a close friend of Conte, in the Napoli project, but if his plan fails, Sarri and Massara may have a chance.

It is worth reminding, however, that De Laurentiis and Sarri no longer seem to be on good terms. The Partenopei owner has never forgiven Sarri for leaving the club in 2018 and called him a ‘loser’ after his resignation as Lazio’s coach.
