Atalanta and Italy defender Giorgio Scalvini’s injury nightmare continues, as a fresh muscular problem has postponed his return to the field yet again.
The centre-back has been struggling with a series of physical problems in the last couple of years, which badly stalled his career trajectory.
It really started in June 2024 when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee just days before the EURO 2024 tournament.
The 21-year-old has barely played since, as he dislocated his shoulder twice, then had several muscular injuries.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, the most recent was spotted after a training session and is in the adductor of the right leg.
This rules Scalvini out of this weekend’s Serie A showdown with Napoli and makes him a major doubt for the upcoming Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Worryingly, the injuries are spread out, as he sustained a lesion to the long adductor in the right leg on September 17, then hurt the femoral bicep in his left leg on October 19.
Scalvini has made only five appearances for Atalanta this season between Serie A and the Champions League, yet still managed to score a goal.
