Italy legend Roberto Baggio has paid tribute to his Italia 90 strike partner Salvatore ‘Totò’ Schillaci, who sadly died at the age of 59, reports on Wednesday confirmed. ‘Brothers of Italy forever,’ he wrote on Instagram.
Reports on Wednesday confirmed that Schillaci has passed away following a battle with colon cancer.
He was best known for his performances at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where he finished with both the Golden Ball and the Golden Boot with six goals to his name, including four in the knock-out rounds.
For the majority of that tournament, Schillaci partnered Baggio up front in Azeglio Vicini’s squad.
“Goodbye my dear friend, looks like you wanted to give me a surprise this time too,” Baggio wrote in a tribute on Instagram.
“The magic nights we lived together at Italia 90 will remain engraved in my heart forever. Brothers of Italy forever.”
