St. Louis fans got a whole heaping of the problems plaguing the Missouri-based team all season. Seattle Sounders fans are already forgetting the previous struggles in form, especially on offense, given their recent run. But how did this landmark game for both teams happen? That’s what I am getting into!

Seattle’s New Transfers Are Gelling Together

Standout performers this game for the RAVE Green were Ryan Kent and Kim Kee-Hee, two of Seattle’s most recent signings. Kent was brought in to replace the recently signed and sadly injured Paul Arriola. Many Sounders fans, especially recently, were critical of their recent signings as not ambitious enough. This last game vs. St. Louis shows that Craig Waibel knows the roster. Now that they have gotten used to the team and their roles, improvement is coming.

St. Louis’ Ironclad Defense Exposed

Throughout the season, the St. Louis defense has been as overbearing as Messi’s bodyguard this year, with the offense being what’s been holding them back. Before the match, they only allowed 8 goals in 10 matches. Against the Sounders, however, the Sounders’ possession-heavy offense with playmakers like Obed Vargas, Albert Rusnák, and Nouhou broke through the 4-3-2-1. It makes you think how they will perform against teams with elite attacking talent like Inter Miami with defending MVP Lionel Messi.

Are the Sounders Turning Things Around?

After starting with more losses than wins, the Sounders have not lost in their last 4 matches. With 3 wins and 1 draw, outscoring their opponents 9-2 in those 4 games. The Seattle Sounders defense has been strong all year, but it’s been the offense that has earned the fans’ ire so far. Not only has that defense improved with Kee-Hee now in the lineup, but now with them averaging 2 goals a game, it looks like those offensive woes are over as well. With the Sounders applying pressure and outshooting them 29-7.

Lack Of St. Louis Playmaking

In their last 5 games, the Missouri-based team has had 3 offensive players with above 7.1 match ratings. With St. Louis having none in their latest game against the Sounders. The defense can only do so much without an elite playmaker or finisher on the other side of the ball. They will be overwhelmed on occasion and collapse with no reserves to help them out of the hole that St. Louis dug themselves.
