Senne Lammens ignores Manchester United instruction

Manchester United’s preparations for the new campaign have already stepped up a gear, with Michael Carrick putting his squad through an intense pre-season schedule ahead of the Premier League return.

According to ESPN, Senne Lammens has decided to end his summer break early in order to return to Manchester United ahead of schedule.

The Belgian goalkeeper had originally been expected back at Carrington next week Monday, having been granted extra time off following his involvement at the FIFA World Cup.

Instead, the 24-year-old has chosen to report back four days early, with sources telling ESPN that he was eager to resume training and continue building on an impressive first season at Old Trafford.

Senne Lammens enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign in England, keeping 8 Premier League clean sheets while quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s standout goalkeepers.

His performances were recognised at the end of the season when he was voted the Premier League’s best transfer following his arrival from Royal Antwerp.

The goalkeeper also represented Belgium at the World Cup this summer, although his tournament ended in disappointing fashion.

He was introduced as a late substitute for Thibaut Courtois during Belgium’s quarter-final against Spain, but spilled a shot that allowed Mikel Merino to score the winning goal in a 1-0 defeat.

Despite that setback, sources indicate Lammens was keen to put the disappointment behind him and return to club football as quickly as possible.

His decision to shorten his holiday reflects his desire to be fully prepared when Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign away to Hull City on 22 August.

Before then, Carrick’s side still have several important pre-season fixtures to navigate.

United face Atletico Madrid in Solna, Sweden, this weekend before further friendlies against Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United, and AC Milan as preparations continue for the new season.
