Bologna could welcome Riccardo Orsolini back into the starting line-up against Genoa in Serie A on Friday evening, as Tiago Motta’s side look to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat against Udinese in their final game of 2023.

The Rossoblu are expected to stick with a similar back four as last time out, with a possible change at left-back, while Remo Freuler and Nikola Moro also likely to start in midfield.

Orsolini could start for the first time in almost two months after the injury he picked up against Fiorentina in November, alongside Giovanni Fabbian and Alexis Saelemaekers, all playing behind leading goalscorer Joshua Zirkzee up front.

Genoa expect the highly sought-after Radu Dragusin to start as usual in defence, in a team that is unlikely to rotate too heavily, having held Serie A leaders Inter to a 1-1 draw last time out.

Mateo Retegui could return to partner Albert Gudmundsson in attack.

Kick-off is set for 19.45 GMT.

Bologna (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; Posch, Beukema, Calafiori, Lykogiannis; Freuler, Moro; Orsolini, Fabbian, Saelemaekers; Zirkzee.

Genoa (3-5-2): Martinez; De Winter, Dragusin, Bani; Sabelli, Frendrup, Badelj, Malinovskyi, Martin; Gudmundsson, Retegui.
