Atalanta suffered a shock defeat to relegation-threatened Cagliari, as Gianluca Scamacca’s opener was cancelled out by Tommaso Augello and Nicolas Viola.

La Dea had a mixed week, crushing Napoli 3-0 away in Serie A and then losing the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final 1-0 to Fiorentina on Wednesday. Giorgio Scalvini is out for a month, though Charles De Ketelaere returned to the bench after injury ahead of the Europa League quarter-final with Liverpool. The hosts missed Leonardo Pavoletti, Andrea Petagna and Marco Mancosu as they tried to break free from the drop zone.

See how it unfolded on the Liveblog.

Ederson blasted inches over from the edge of the area and Atalanta took the lead with a well-worked move. Teun Koopmeiners sent Ademola Lookman down the left, he rolled across and Gianluca Scamacca anticipated the defenders to dink it over the goalkeeper from six yards.

Berat Djimsiti charged down the Ibrahima Sulemana strike, with Yerry Mina and Gianluca Gaetano going down too easily under pressure to warrant penalties.

Cagliari equalised when Eldor Shomurodov dribbled into the box and drew defenders to him, then smartly rolled across for Tommaso Augello to sweep into the far top corner with the inside of the left boot from nine yards.

Lookman could’ve restored Atalanta’s advantage on the stroke of half-time, but lost his footing as he ran onto the through ball.

Alberto Dossena nodded over from a corner and El-Bilal Toure wasted a promising opportunity, but more worrying for Atalanta they had Marten de Roon and Davide Zappacosta booked, so they will be suspended.

Zito Luvumbo stung Marco Carnesecchi’s gloves with a curler and Cagliari looked fresher as the game wore on, turning it around to take the lead when Luvumbo’s cross found a rare Nicolas Viola glancing header into the far bottom corner.

It is a huge result for Claudio Ranieri’s men, who break away four points clear of the drop zone.
