With technical director Johan Lange leading the recruitment drive, head coach Thomas Frank is aiming to prepare Tottenham Hotspur for the gruelling 2025/26 season.
The North Londoners have already added Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus and Kota Takai to their new boss’ ranks. They are looking to add more attacking punch to the side, as evidenced by interest in signing Morgan Gibbs-White. While a deal for Gibbs-White collapsed, Spurs are in the market for further attacking reinforcements after Tel and Kudus’ additions.
Last month, Tottenham made an enquiry to Juventus over a possible move for Timothy Weah. The USA forward’s time at Juventus have not been great, struggling to impose himself after moving from Lille in 2023. The chopping and changing of managers have not helped his cause either.
Timothy Weah wants to leave Juventus this summer but the club has seemingly blocked his exit. In June, the 25-year-old winger reportedly turned down an approach from Nottingham Forest after Juventus and the Premier League club came to terms over a transfer. Since then, he’s stated his desire to return to France, and Marseille has shown an interest in signing him.
Now, according to Sky Italia (h/t SpazioJ), Tottenham and Chelsea had made their moves to sign Weah, but he has rejected their advances. The American wants a move to Marseille to revive his stuttering career, with Juventus demanding a fee of around €20 million to sell him.
The versatile attacker started 18 of 30 Serie A games last season, netting five goals and registering three assists. He was in and out of the Juve side, failing to establish himself as a starter neither under Thiago Motta nor Igor Tudor. Weah also missed some games due to injury, which only made it difficult for him to get any rhythm.
In Kudus, Spurs have signed a versatile attacker who can operate in multiple positions in midfield and attack. Tel would also provide flexibility to Frank’s attack due to his ability to play on the left flank and centrally as a No.9.
It was reported earlier this month that the Lilywhites had pulled out of race for Weah. This came after the club bosses were totally fixated on bringing Kudus to the club, having made the Ghana international their summer’s priority attacking target. In addition, Frank already has the likes of Son Heung-min, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon and Dejan Kulusevski as wide options.
That being said, Weah rejecting a move to Spurs now does not quite add up. This bit of story feels like agent-driven, urging Marseille to meet Juventus’ €20 million asking price after their opening €15 million bid was rejected a few days ago.
