Torino 2-2 Juventus: match report

The match began one hour behind schedule following clashes between Juventus and Torino ultras in the afternoon.

One Juventus fan was taken to the hospital in critical condition, so Bianconeri ultras threatened to invade the pitch if the game had started.

When Lega Serie A and public authorities decided that the game would go ahead, Juventus supporters left the stadium, leaving the away end empty.

Torino had a strong start, winning two corner kicks in the opening minutes, but Vlahovic broke the deadlock at minute 24 as he received a precise pass from Khephren Thuram, controlled the ball inside the box and fired a shot at the far post.

A few minutes later, the Serbia international wasted an excellent chance to score from a Pierre Kalulu cross from the right, sending his header over the crossbar.

Manuel Locatelli came close to doubling the lead at the beginning of the second half, when he sent a shot from the edge of the box wide of the far post.

Vlahovic made it two for Juve just a few seconds later, finalising a perfect counter-attack led by Conceiçao. Vlahovic received the ball inside the box and beat Alberto Paleari with a first-time right-footed shot at the far post.

Torino coach Roberto D’Aversa turned it around with some smart substitutions, while Luciano Spalletti replaced Conceiçao, Vlahovic and Thuram in the second half.

Italy international Cesare Casadei brought Torino back into the game with a powerful header from a corner kick, capitalising on Andrea Cambiaso’s lacklustre man-marking.

The game’s intensity increased further in the final 20 minutes. Torino’s substitute Alieu Njie had a good opportunity inside the box, but his shot was not very well placed, so Perin tipped it out for a corner.

Juventus conceded yet again from another corner kick: Casadei won another aerial duel, this time Perin made the save, but Scotland international Adams was the quickest in pouncing on the ball to score on the rebound.

Emil Holm had one final opportunity for Juve, but Paleari deflected the defender’s shot from distance over the crossbar.

This draw means Juventus have finished sixth in the standings with 69 points, while Inter, Napoli, Roma and Como qualify for the Champions League.
