Empoli have officially hired former Juve Stabia coach Guida Pagliuca in the hope of returning quickly to Serie A.

The Tuscans were relegated on the final day of the season, along with Venezia and Monza, so will play in Serie B next term.

They parted company with Roberto D’Aversa and wanted fresh blood to attempt the fight back into the top flight.

This afternoon, Empoli formally announced they had chosen 49-year-old coach Pagliuca to take over.

He had been on the Juve Stabia bench for two seasons, this term taking them to the Serie B promotion play-offs.

Empoli not the only Serie B change

Monza have brought in Paolo Bianco in place of Alessandro Nesta following their relegation from Serie A and Pippo Inzaghi is set to get the Palermo job after leaving Pisa.

Meanwhile, also in Serie B, Modena have formally appointed ex-Udinese coach Andrea Sottil on a two-year contract.

Bari are widely expected to hire Fabio Caserta to be their new coach, replacing Moreno Longo, once he leaves Catanzaro.
