Arsenal might have missed out on the 2023/24 Premier League title by a small margin, but the club are now determined to strengthen their squad to lodge an even better challenge next season. Amid this, there seems to be an interesting update on the future of Thomas Partey.

Arsenal Make Plans to Sell Thomas Partey

Who Could Potentially Replace Partey At Arsenal?

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Ghana midfielder is now expected to leave the North London heavyweights in the summer transfer window. This comes after Jorginho signed a contract extension with Arsenal, with the Gunners showing a desire to prefer the Italian midfielder over Partey.

Romano also adds that Arsenal already have several midfielders on their summer transfer wishlist as they aim to get their transfers done quickly. He further claims that Mikel Arteta’s side are still admirers of Aston Villa man Douglas Luiz, whom they have been strongly linked with in the past and reportedly even tried their best to sign in 2022. But the Gunners are aware that negotiating with the Villans for their prized midfielder will not be easy, especially after they’ve secured qualification into the Champions League next season.

The journalist further states that Arsenal have “several players lined up” in terms of possible replacements for Partey. This comes after the Gunners also heavily invested in strengthening their midfield last summer, paying over £100 million to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United.

What Has Gone Wrong For Partey?

The 30-year-old midfielder had a tough 2023/24 season with Arsenal, with his injury problems holding him back from nailing down a regular place in Arteta’s starting XI. Indeed, Partey was just restricted to 16 appearances across the entire campaign, missing 21 of their 38 Premier League matches as well.  Partey produced impressive performances towards the end of the season, standing out in the wins over Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in April (2024). He was even hailed as a “really important player” by Arteta, but it seems that feeling has now faded away.

The Ghana midfielder is contracted to remain a part of the Gunners until June 30, 2025 and they will look to get some decent money from his sale and use that to sign a stronger replacement. The 30-year-old has been linked to a potential move to Saudi Arabia, but only time will tell if he accepts a move away from Europe anytime soon.
