As Sheffield United prepare for life outside the Premier League once again this summer, after losing in the play-offs, the transfer rumour mill is already heating up with a number of key players expected to depart, while new targets are already on the club’s radar.
Midfield dynamo Gustavo Hamer, soon to be 28, is attracting serious interest from both Leeds United and Everton, according to the latest reports from TalkSport. Hamer was one of the main bright sparks for the Blades, finishing the campaign with nine goals and seven assists.
Despite falling at the final hurdle in the Championship play-offs, with the Blades losing 2-1 to Sunderland in the dying minutes, the Dutchman remains highly rated for his technical ability and energy in midfield. Hamer’s departure would leave a significant void out on the inverted left-winger role and in midfield, but United knew failing to get promoted this season would see Hamer be heavily linked with Premier League clubs over the next couple of months.
Another name likely on the move is Vinicius Souza. As reported by AS, the Brazilian midfielder is ready to leave Bramall Lane in a bid to boost his chances of making Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Souza, soon to be 26, has garnered interest from clubs in both the Premier League and La Liga, with his athleticism, aggression, and composure on the ball making him an attractive option.
The Brazilian struggled in his first campaign with United, ultimately getting relegated from the Premier League. His second season, after becoming accustomed to English football, showed everyone what he’s about. Whilst he doesn’t get goals or assists, he is a physical dominator in midfield, and has good technical ability. But, he needs the right type of player profile at the side of him.
On the recruitment front, the Blades are among several clubs monitoring Gora Diouf, a 21-year-old centre-back from FC Sion, according to Foot Mercato. Diouf, who will become a free agent at the end of June, has caught the attention of clubs in England, France and Turkey.
The young Senegalese left-footed defender is known for his physical presence and athleticism for his size, and a move to Sheffield United could represent a smart piece of business as the club look to bolster their defence without spending heavily.
Diouf featured 24 times in the Swiss Super League last term and helped keep three clean sheets, whilst chipping in with two goals.
Finally, Jimmy Dunne of QPR has emerged once again as a target for Sheffield United. As per Alan Nixon, the Irish defender is out of contract this summer, and the Blades, who have admired him for some time, are expected to finally make a move.
Dunne, 27, is experienced at Championship level and he would bring plenty of versatility to the back line; he was originally a central defender but has since looked much better at right-back, where he mostly played last season and helped keep ten clean sheets and netting five goals in the process.
