As noted by Sky Sports, the BBC and other outlets, Sheffield United have shared a screenshot of racist abuse striker David McGoldrick recently encountered online.
"2020 and this is life," McGoldrick wrote in the post.
In a tweet that also includes the NSFW abuse, the club declared:
As a club we will support David McGoldrick and will do all we can to find the perpetrator of this disgusting message.
We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice.
This cannot continue. Something needs to change.
The previous day, a 12-year-old male was arrested for sending racist comments to Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.
McGoldrick twice hit the back of the net for his first Premier League goals during United's 3-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday. That result has United seventh in the league table heading into Tuesday.
Players from all clubs have knelt before kickoffs in support of the Black Lives Matter movement since the English top flight returned amid the coronavirus pandemic on June 17.
