Sheffield Wednesday officially offer contract to Bruno Fernandes

Sheffield Wednesday have had a disaster of a season this year as the 2025/26 campaign saw them end the year at the bottom of the Championship, finishing with zero points.

Last summer, the club missed paying wages for the third time in four months, allowing players to terminate their contracts under FIFA regulations, and the club was put under a registration embargo.

As such, The Owls couldn’t sign any new players, with the exception of emergency loans such as Harry Amass from Manchester United.

Danny Rohl, the then manager, was also dropped by mutual consent as he failed to attend pre-season training, with his assistant Henrik Pedersen taking up the hot seat.

In October 2025 the club entered administration, with a 12-point deduction handed to them, with takeover bids coming in throughout the rest of the season as David Storch’s takeover was completed at the end of the season.

However, with relegation already sealed in February 2026, League One football was already on its way.

Sheffield United’s Bruno Fernandes

Now, Sheffield Wednesday have announced their official retained list, with Bruno Fernandes appearing on the list for next year.

While this isn’t THE Bruno Fernandes, he is another Portuguese central midfielder, similar to the United captain.

Having recently been playing for the Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s, this Bruno Fernandes has been handed a new professional contract to join the senior squad next season.

So while one is headed to the Champions League, returning Manchester United to the top of European football, the other is preparing for life in the third tier of English football.

The 20-year-old has already made his debut for Wednesday, although his only meaningful stint on the pitch with the first team was a first-half showing against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup back in August 2025 as The Owls won on penalties.

Now, he’s set to take the next steps in his professional career, hoping to become a routine member of the senior squad.
