Stephen Welsh committed his future to Celtic until 2027 earlier today. The Coatbridge Cannavaro was composed and assured in the win at Pittodrie, where he replaced Cameron Carter-Vickers at half time.

However, a photograph has emerged of Welsh in a moon boot appearing to be waiting to see a doctor after what can only be assumed is a training injury. The player was pictured in Celtic training earlier today ahead of the game at Rugby Park on Sunday.

This is a blow to the Celtic manager as he had hoped that the signings of Nawrocki and Lagerbielke would firm up the defence with Carl Starfelt leaving. Now, Yuki Kobayashi and Liam Scales may have their positions re-evaluated with the extent of Welsh’s injury uncertain.

Hopefully the boot is a precaution but you’d imagine that it isn’t and that Welsh may have a spell on the sidelines ahead of him.

One thing is certain and that is that Celtic will likely need to consider a debut for Lagerbielke this weekend away to Killie.
