Manchester United fans have had plenty to cheer this week, with one of their most iconic legends back in the spotlight for all the right reasons.
Sir David Beckham, officially knighted earlier this week for his services to football, remains one of the most celebrated figures to emerge from Old Trafford.
His legacy in both the Premier League and the Champions League has inspired countless players across generations.
But in football, even the greatest records don’t last forever.
And this week, one of Beckham’s long-standing European feats was finally broken.
A new name has emerged on the continental stage, and it belongs to Carlos Forbs of Club Brugge.
The 21-year-old winger produced a stunning performance on Wednesday night as his side battled to a 3-3 draw against Barcelona in a Champions League thriller at the Jan Breydelstadion.
Forbs scored twice and provided an assist, tearing apart the Spanish giants’ defence in a display of pace, flair, and precision finishing.
His dazzling form overshadowed Barcelona’s teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal, who also found the net with a spectacular strike.
In doing so, Forbs made history.
For over 25 years, Manchester United icon Sir David Beckham held the record as the youngest player to both score and assist against Barcelona in the Champions League, a record set during his glittering spell at Old Trafford.
But Forbs has now eclipsed Beckham’s mark by nearly two years, confirming his arrival on Europe’s biggest stage in unforgettable fashion.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are enduring a tricky campaign despite their domestic and European successes last season.
After winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey and reaching the Champions League semi-finals, Hansi Flick’s side entered this term with sky-high expectations.
However, a 3-3 draw against Brugge, following a previous loss to Paris Saint-Germain, leaves them 11th in the group standings, outside the automatic qualification spots for the last 16.
For United supporters, Beckham’s name being rewritten in the history books comes with mixed emotions,ff pride in his enduring influence and admiration for a new generation making their mark on the grand stage he once ruled.
