Sir David Beckham involved in bid to buy club

Sir David Beckham has been linked with another possible club takeover at a time when Manchester United’s ownership remains under intense scrutiny.

The Glazer family have faced sustained criticism throughout their time at Old Trafford.

Protests have become a regular feature around the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has also attracted criticism since taking control of football operations, with supporters questioning decisions made both on and off the pitch.

The ownership debate intensified earlier this summer when reports emerged that members of the Glazer family where exploring a potential sale of their Manchester United shares.

Against that backdrop, Beckham’s name naturally carries huge weight whenever ownership opportunities arise.

He grew up supporting United before joining the club as a youngster and becoming part of the famous Class of ’92.

Beckham went on to make 394 competitive appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 85 goals.

He also played a major role in the historic 1999 Treble before leaving for Real Madrid in 2003.

His connection to football ownership is already well established.

Beckham is currently a co-owner of Inter Miami, while he is also part of the ownership group at Salford City.

That has made any suggestion of another takeover particularly eye-catching.

However, the latest story has nothing to do with Manchester United.

According to RMC Sport, Beckham had been involved in one of the proposals to buy French club FC Nantes.

That possibility has now been ruled out, with RMC reporting that the Beckham option is “off the table”.

Two other bids remain under consideration, both involving British pension funds.

Nantes owner Waldemar Kita has faced growing supporter unrest after several difficult seasons.

Meanwhile, talk of a possible sale has intensified.

His entourage has acknowledged interest and discussions, although they insist their is currently nothing concrete.

Beckham will therefore not be adding Nantes to his football portfolio for now.
