Sir David Beckham is continuing to make his place in the football world felt, even with his retirement from playing professionally coming 13 years ago.
The 51-year-old, who made 265 appearances for Manchestr United across his nine-year spell at the club, has moved into the realm of club ownership in recent years as he looks to develop his career off-the-field further.
That venture has resulted in Sir David Beckham currently part-owning League Two side Salford City and owning Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami.
Earlier this summer, in his ownership of Inter Miami, the 51-year-old brought Casemiro into the fold.
The Manchester United legend has also held transfer talks with Kylian Mbappe and was linked with a move for Cape Verde international Vozinha, who impressed millions at this summer’s World Cup finals.
Now, in a reminder of his ongoing connection with Manchester United, one of his shirts has been sold at auction.
The auction, held on Match Worn Shirt, took place on August 12th and featured shirts from Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, and Gary Neville, alongside Beckham.
Sir David Beckham’s shirt, which was issued for Manchester United’s 2002/03 Champions League tie against Basel, was sold for £2,856 to an American bidder, who beat two British bids of £2,608 and £2,700 respectively.
The jersey has the 51-year-old’s signature on whilst also having a personal message to Rod Thornley, a key backroom member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, on.
Giggs’ shirt, on the other hand, which was worn in United’s 4-0 victory over Olympiakos in the 2002/03 Champions League group stage, sold for £7,429 to a British bidder.
Neville’s, Butt’s, and Scholes’ shirts were all also sold, with the winning bids being £1,293, £2,000, and £3,371 respectively.
Match Worn Shirt have previously sold a variety of match-prepared and match-worn Manchester United shirts, including ones worn during last season’s Premier League campaign.
