Manchester United are approaching Ruben Amorim’s first pre-season with a sense of momentum and there is movement on the outgoing front too.
The Ineos era has already seen two signings arrive, one of them a club-record move to land Matheus Cunha, who was officially unveiled last week.
Now, attention is turning to outgoings. Amorim’s first tour squad will reportedly be missing a few familiar faces, with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford all left off the list as the club look for buyers.
While Real Betis are reportedly preparing an offer for Antony, movement on Sancho’s future is also taking shape – and one club is already said to have made a proposal.
According to Italian journalist Marco Giordano of Radio CRC, Juventus have offered United €25m (£21m) for Sancho, with the proposal described as ‘important’.
That figure is unlikely to recoup anything close to the initial £72m United paid for Sancho back in 2021, but a clean break would help clear his wages off the books and open the door for a fresh start.
Juventus aren’t the only club circling either. Napoli have also expressed interest, and while they’re currently exploring alternative signings, the Italian side remain a tempting option for Sancho himself.
Juve will need to both convince the player and find a way to accommodate his wage demands. United, meanwhile, may be willing to accept a lower fee if it means wrapping up one of their longest-running departures.
Sancho’s tally of 18 goal contributions in a United shirt was never close to matching the investment. Factor in his reported £250,000-a-week wages – and a total spend approaching £109m – and each goal or assist came at a staggering price.
By the time you include his wages, he cost United around £6m per goal contribution, a figure unlikely to be repeated under Ineos’s new data-driven approach to recruitment.
