Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has long been one of the most high-profile figures in British sport.

His influence at Old Trafford has been felt behind the scenes, with fans keenly watching how his investments shape the club’s future.

Ratcliffe’s sporting interests extend beyond football.

Over the years, his name has become synonymous with both strategic vision and big-budget projects in sport.

Now, that focus is extending to another area of competition entirely, with a major announcement expected in professional cycling.

According to The Times, Ratcliffe is preparing to give up the naming rights of his Ineos Grenadiers team in a deal reportedly worth £100 million.

The Danish IT firm Netcompany, which recently became the main digital partner for Heathrow Airport, is expected to take over as the new title sponsor.

The five-year agreement could be unveiled before this year’s Tour de France, giving the team a major financial boost.

Since Sir Dave Brailsford returned last year, the Grenadiers have focused on winning an eighth Tour after claiming seven titles between 2012 and 2019.

The team’s plans include recruiting young stars like Scot Oscar Onley and French rider Kevin Vauquelin, while also increasing revenue to compete with Tadej Pogacar and UAE Team Emirates.

Ratcliffe currently invests around £30 million annually, but experts say top teams now require closer to £50 million to maintain dominance.

The sponsorship deal will help cover costs like Onley’s reported £5 million-a-year salary and may continue alongside the team’s partnership with French energy giant TotalEnergies.

In the beginning of this year, it was reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s growing responsibilities away from football demanded more of his attention, potentially limiting his hands-on involvement at Manchester United for a period.

With Ratcliffe remaining the principal owner and Brailsford and Geraint Thomas keeping senior roles, the Grenadiers look set to stay a major force on the world stage.
