Manchester United’s summer rebuild is beginning to gather pace, with the club pushing forward on multiple midfield targets as they look to reshape the squad ahead of a new era under Michael Carrick.

Recruitment talks have intensified in recent days, with negotiations now reaching advanced stages on one of their primary targets.

The focus is on adding balance and energy to the centre of the pitch.

And one long-term target is now closer than ever to a move to Old Trafford.

Sky Sports provide Ederson update

Manchester United are close to completing a deal for Ederson, with discussions over a transfer from Atalanta BC now in the final phase, as Sky Sports reports.

The agreement being negotiated is believed to be worth around £38 million in total, structured with a £35 million (€40.5m) guaranteed payment and a further £3 million (€3.5m) in performance-related add-ons.

Sources suggest a full agreement could be finalised by the end of the week, with the deal progressing steadily after positive discussions between all parties involved.

Ederson himself has already taken a significant step towards the move, with the midfielder understood to have agreed personal terms with Manchester United on a contract running until 2031.

That long-term commitment signals how highly the club value him as part of their future core, particularly as they look to strengthen the midfield with a more dynamic profile.

Atalanta head coach Raffaele Palladino has also addressed the situation publicly, confirming that the player is expected to move on.

Speaking after Atalanta’s clash with Fiorentina last week, Palladino said: “It was a decision we agreed with the boy because there’s something going on in the transfer market.”

“The fact that such a player is being followed by such a big club should be a source of pride.”

Ederson’s departure would mark the end of a key spell in Italy, where he contributed across multiple competitions and produced 3 goals and 2 assists this season.

If completed, the move would be expected to become first signing of the Michael Carrick era at Manchester United, as the club continue reshaping their midfield options.

He is not the only name under consideration either, with United also tracking a wider list of potential additions including Elliot Anderson, Matheus Fernandes, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali.

But for now, Ederson remains the priority, and all signs suggest Manchester United are edging ever closer to securing their man.
